Hotel Breakfast Host – Job Description

Department: Food & Beverage / Breakfast
Reports To: General Manager / Assistant General Manager
Employment Status: Full-Time / Part-Time
Schedule: Early mornings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled

Position Summary

The Breakfast Host is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and operating the hotel breakfast area while providing friendly and professional service to hotel guests. This position ensures breakfast is ready on time, food is properly stocked and presented, the dining area remains clean, and all food safety and hotel standards are followed.

The Breakfast Host plays an important role in the guest experience by providing a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring guests begin their day with excellent service.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesBreakfast Preparation & Setup

• Arrive on time and in proper uniform with name tag.
• Prepare and open the breakfast area by the required opening time.
• Prepare and set out all approved breakfast items according to hotel and brand standards.
• Set up coffee, juice, milk, water, condiments, utensils, plates, cups, napkins, and other breakfast supplies.
• Check food temperatures before and throughout breakfast service.
• Ensure all food is fresh, properly prepared, and attractively presented.
• Follow proper food rotation procedures, including FIFO (First In, First Out).
• Check expiration dates before serving any food product.

Guest Service

• Greet guests in a friendly and professional manner.
• Assist guests with breakfast items and answer questions when needed.
• Keep the breakfast area welcoming, organized, and fully stocked.
• Monitor guest needs throughout breakfast service.
• Immediately report guest complaints or concerns to management.
• Provide courteous service while maintaining a professional appearance and attitude.

During Breakfast Service

• Continuously monitor and replenish food and beverage items.
• Do not allow food, coffee, juice, condiments, plates, cups, or utensils to run out.
• Maintain required hot and cold food temperatures.
• Wipe tables and chairs between guests.
• Keep counters, serving stations, equipment, and floors clean.
• Empty trash before containers become overly full.
• Keep the breakfast area free of spills and safety hazards.
• Maintain cleanliness of coffee and beverage stations throughout service.

Closing & Cleaning

• Close breakfast according to the hotel's established schedule.
• Properly discard, store, label, and date food according to hotel and food-safety procedures.
• Clean and sanitize all breakfast equipment and food-contact surfaces.
• Clean counters, tables, chairs, cabinets, and serving stations.
• Sweep and mop the breakfast and preparation areas.
• Empty trash and clean trash containers.
• Wash, dry, and properly store dishes and utensils.
• Clean coffee machines, juice machines, microwaves, refrigerators, and other breakfast equipment as assigned.
• Restock supplies for the following day.
• Leave the breakfast preparation and serving areas completely clean and organized before leaving.

Food Safety & Sanitation

The Breakfast Host must:

• Wash hands frequently and follow proper handwashing procedures.
• Wear gloves when required and change gloves appropriately.
• Follow all local health department and hotel food-safety requirements.
• Maintain proper food temperatures and temperature logs.
• Prevent cross-contamination.
• Properly label and date opened or prepared products.
• Immediately report spoiled, expired, or questionable food.
• Keep refrigerators, freezers, storage areas, and food-preparation areas clean and organized.
• Never serve expired or improperly stored food.

Inventory & Supplies

• Monitor daily breakfast inventory.
• Notify management when supplies are running low.
• Help prevent unnecessary food waste.
• Properly rotate inventory using FIFO procedures.
• Keep breakfast storage areas clean and organized.
• Assist with receiving and properly storing breakfast deliveries when assigned.
• Report damaged products, equipment, or missing supplies to management.

Additional Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain the breakfast area throughout the shift.
• Assist with light cleaning of the lobby or nearby public areas when assigned.
• Report maintenance problems immediately.
• Report damaged or malfunctioning breakfast equipment.
• Follow all hotel safety, security, attendance, uniform, and guest-service policies.
• Complete required hotel or brand training.
• Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Previous hotel, restaurant, food-service, or customer-service experience preferred.
• Ability to provide friendly and professional guest service.
• Ability to work independently and stay organized.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation preferred.
• Must be dependable and punctual.
• Must be able to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
• Food-handler certification may be required based on local regulations or hotel policy.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, reach, lift, and carry supplies.
• Ability to lift approximately 25–40 pounds as needed.
• Ability to safely operate breakfast and kitchen equipment.

Performance Expectations

The Breakfast Host is expected to:

• Have breakfast completely ready before the scheduled opening time.
• Maintain a clean and fully stocked breakfast area throughout service.
• Provide friendly and professional guest service.
• Follow all food-safety and sanitation requirements.
• Control waste and properly manage breakfast inventory.
• Maintain satisfactory guest feedback and brand standards.
• Complete all assigned cleaning and closing duties before clocking out.
