Lead Optical Engineer
Lyric Bio. Inc is a San Francisco Bay Area biotechnology company developing ultra-high density bioreactors to address supply limitations of donor-derived therapeutics. We are seeking a skilled Optical Engineer with experience developing, testing, aligning, and maintaining free-space optical systems. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, communicative, creative, and highly motivated to use their skills for the production of systems that support high-density bioreactors designed to eliminate drug shortages. Work or hobbyist experience in the macro 3D printing space using systems such as FormLabs for parts generation is desirable but not required. Adjacent experience or interest in bioreactor development, tissue engineering, and/or cell biology is beneficial but not required.
Key responsibilities:
● Lead the build out and testing of a 2-Photon IR based laser printing system
● Maintain system and manage production of bioprinted output
● Be comfortable working with and maintaining safety standards for a Class 4 laser system
● Assist with lab organization, equipment maintenance, and inventory management
● Generation and presentation of publication-quality reports, figures, and analysis
● Work independently and as part of cross-functional teams to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks
● Enjoy being a team player in a small company environment
Qualifications:
● PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related discipline with 0-5 years of experience, or a Masters Degree with 5 years of experience
● Familiarity with wavefront manipulation with SLM or DMD based systems
● Basic engineering skills and a desire to work in a biomaterials development space
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Strict adherence to, and respect for, good data collection and documentation practices
● Possess the confidence to identify problems early and present effective solutions
