Job Description:
The Special Education teacher is responsible for creating individualized education plans for students to achieve academic
proficiency and be able to access the inclusion environment. This teacher will serve as the liaison for special education
students, maintain data, and communicate progress to families. The teacher will plan lessons, deliver instruction in both
small group and inclusion settings, and assess all students’ progress throughout the year.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Responsible for serving as a member of the Special Education Team in writing educational plans and progress reports
● Completion of achievement assessments within the required legal timelines
● Responsible for following the student's IEP and ensuring compliance with state and federal SPED regulations,
including the delivery of high-quality services, and the provision of accommodations/modifications for instruction and
assessment
● Responsible for providing individual, small group, and inclusion-based instruction
● Responsible for communicating and collaborating with regular education teachers and other personnel
● Responsible for communicating and collaborating with families and additional outside team members
● Responsible for understanding the state-required guidelines around standardized testing and for providing appropriate
accommodations as identified on student IEPs during the administration of these assessments
● Responsible for assessing student knowledge and monitoring academic progress using formal and informal means to
develop measurable IEP goals and to support student learning
● Responsible for modifying curriculum and accommodating student learning styles to ensure success within the
classroom
● Responsible for data collection and adjusting instruction accordingly
● Performance of other job-related duties as assigned
Salary Range: $61,848 - $118,668 per year. A union-represented position. Starting salary is determined by the Collective
Bargaining Agreement based on the candidate's verified years of experience and educational degree (Steps and Lanes).
