What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solutions Architect — Utility Systems & Enterprise Platforms position at LynkBlox Technologies?
Solutions Architect — Utility Systems & Enterprise Platforms
Detroit, MI | Hybrid (On-site 3 days/week) | Contract
Position: Solutions Architect
Type: Contract
Location: Detroit, MI (Hybrid)
Domain: Utility / Municipal
About the Role
We are seeking a technically strong, adaptable Solutions Architect to support a major municipal utility client in Detroit, MI. This is a hands-on engagement embedded within the client's IT and operations teams, helping to assess, design, and improve a complex enterprise technology stack across work management, GIS, billing, analytics, and IoT systems.
This is a great fit for someone who is curious, practical, and comfortable working across multiple platforms — you do not need to be an expert in every system listed. If you have solid enterprise IT experience and exposure to utility operations or municipal environments, we encourage you to apply.
Technology Environment
The client operates across a broad set of enterprise platforms. Familiarity with any of the following areas is valued:
Billing & CRM
Work & Assets
Data & Analytics
IoT & SCADA
Other Systems
EnQuesta CIS, CS Portal, Bright Pattern, Payment platforms
Cityworks, ArcGIS, Innovyze/IAM, Service request tools
Oracle OIC, OAC, Data Warehouse, reporting platforms
Digital Twin, IoT sensors, SCADA, Itron Metering
eBuilder, Fleet & Supply Chain, Permitting systems
What You Will Do
Assessment & Discovery
• Sit with client IT and operations teams to understand current workflows, system configurations, and integration patterns
• Review existing automations, scripts, integrations, and data pipelines — document what exists and how it works
• Identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities across the enterprise platform stack
• Shadow field and operations staff to understand how systems are used day-to-day
Recommendations & Roadmap
• Translate findings into clear, practical recommendations that can be acted on — not just documented
• Help prioritize improvement items based on operational impact, effort, and risk
• Produce documentation so client staff can maintain and build on the work after the engagement
Implementation Support
• Support configuration changes, workflow improvements, integration updates, and reporting enhancements
• Work alongside a delivery team — define work clearly, delegate appropriately, and stay accountable for outcomes
• Assist with platform upgrades and system migrations as they arise during the engagement
What We Are Looking For
Required
• 5 years of experience in enterprise IT consulting, systems integration, or solutions architecture
• Hands-on experience with at least one of the platforms in the client's stack (see Technology Environment above)
• Comfort working across IT and operations teams — able to engage both technically and practically
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to document findings and present recommendations clearly
• Experience on client-embedded or consulting engagements; comfortable working on-site with a client team
Preferred (Nice to Have — Not All Required)
• Experience in the utility, municipal, or public-sector domain (water, sewer, energy, transit)
• Familiarity with work and asset management systems (Cityworks, Maximo, Hansen, Infor, or similar)
• Experience with GIS platforms — Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent
• Background in CIS/billing systems (EnQuesta, Oracle CC&B, SAP IS-U, or similar)
• Exposure to data and analytics platforms (Oracle OIC/OAC, MuleSoft, Boomi, or comparable)
• Integration experience — REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, file-based or database-level integrations
• Familiarity with IoT, SCADA, or metering environments
• Experience with capital project systems (eBuilder, Procore) or fleet management tools
Mindset & Soft Skills
• Listener first — spends the first week understanding before recommending
• Pragmatic — focuses on recommendations that translate into real deliverables
• Collaborative — works well with a delivery team; defines and delegates rather than doing everything alone
• Calm under change — comfortable holding context across concurrent projects and shifting priorities
• Comfortable with ambiguity — able to frame decisions and move forward without having every answer
Working Conditions
• Hybrid engagement — minimum 3 days/week on-site at client facilities in Detroit, MI; remote otherwise
• Occasional field visits to operational sites (yards, pump stations, field locations) may be required
• Contract duration: 24 months with extension potential through late 2027
• Tools, documentation platforms, and system access provided by the prime contractor and client
