Power Systems Studies Engineer

Lynk Engineers
Salt Lake, UT Full Time
POSTED ON 8/25/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/20/2027

Company Description Lynk Engineers is a multi-discipline MEPT firm created through the merger of three long-standing, award-winning engineering companies: Spectrum Engineers, Colvin Engineering, and Envision Engineering. The team provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology engineering leadership, planning, and design services for the built environment. With over 260 employees and offices in Utah, Idaho, Arizona, and Maryland, Lynk partners with owners, architects, developers, and contractors to deliver integrated and efficient solutions. The firm focuses on sustainable, forward-thinking designs and positions itself as a single, comprehensive engineering resource powered by top MEPT talent. Team members join a collaborative environment that values innovation, quality, and client service.

Role Description This is a specialized, hands-on engineering position focused on performing electrical power system studies and analysis.

We are specifically looking for an engineer whose professional experience demonstrates that power system studies have been a meaningful and recurring part of their role. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience personally developing power system models, performing studies, analyzing and troubleshooting results, developing engineering recommendations, and preparing final technical deliverables.

This position is intended for an engineer who can take ownership of assigned studies and actively perform the technical work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred
  • Demonstrated professional experience performing electrical power system studies
  • Demonstrated work history personally performing electrical studies as a significant part of the position
  • Ability to independently develop models, perform studies, analyze results, and prepare technical deliverables
  • Strong experience with arc flash, short circuit, protective device coordination, and load flow studies
  • Experience with harmonic, grounding, cable ampacity, cable pull, motor starting, and/or transient studies preferred
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, fault current, protective devices, coordination, grounding, and power system analysis
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry standards, including NFPA 70E, NEC/NFPA 70, and relevant IEEE standards associated with power system studies
  • Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, equipment data, electrical drawings, and technical specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing engineering study reports
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required

Software Experience:

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience using multiple industry-standard power system analysis programs, including:

  • SKM Power*Tools
  • ETAP
  • EasyPower
  • CYMCAP
  • CDEGS

Candidates do not necessarily need experience with every platform; however, they should demonstrate strong proficiency with power system analysis software and the ability to independently build models and perform studies.

What Lynk is Looking For:

The right candidate for this position is a power systems studies specialist and a hands-on engineer.

We are looking for someone who can get into the software, build and troubleshoot models, run the studies, interpret the results, identify issues, develop engineering recommendations, and prepare the final technical deliverables. Candidates should be able to point to specific projects where they personally performed power system studies—not simply projects where studies were part of the overall electrical scope or were performed by another engineer or consultant.

General electrical design, industrial design, or substation experience alone does not meet what we are seeking for this position. Those backgrounds can be valuable, but the successful candidate's work history should demonstrate that electrical power system studies and analysis have been a meaningful and recurring part of their professional responsibilities.

We are looking for someone who can own studies from beginning to end, including gathering and validating system information, developing the model, performing the analysis, troubleshooting results, identifying potential issues, developing recommendations, and producing the final deliverables.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working directly in the applicable study software and taking responsibility for the technical quality and accuracy of their work.

We are seeking someone who can contribute immediately while continuing to grow their technical expertise within Lynk Engineers.
