Job Summary: The R&D Specialist carries out technical development assignments from general sets of instructions to assist a Development Engineer in the successful completion and transfer of a project(s) with limited supervision. Important aspects of the position include the proficient operation of a variety of instruments and equipment, and skillful execution of techniques and procedures. Furthermore, the R&D Specialist will establish procedures and techniques for new operations (equipment, instrument, process, etc.). Major criteria for successful performance are initiative, innovativeness, practicality, adaptability, dependability/willingness, neatness, and safety-consciousness. Responsibilities: Support in executing approved development project tasks through testing, characterization, formulation, pilot, and manufacturing scale-up, optimizing processes, etc., ensuring seamless cross-functional collaboration. Plan/execute experiments, analyze and interpret results to progress the team through each pilot product development phase. Work closely with other Development Technicians and Engineers to accomplish lab- and plant-scale trial work. Collaborate with peers in Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, and Sales to address challenges encountered during each development phase , supporting the Development Engineer Proficient in adhering and maintaining the ISO documentation for new product development projects, including transfers to manufacturing Lead by example with a safety-first mindset in all working environments Communicate effectively (maintain auditable lab records, Design Meeting Minutes, lead team meetings, provide instruction to and coordinate with Technicians, file Invention Disclosures and support IP development). Qualifications/Experience: Bachelor's, Associate’s degree, or technical certification in Engineering Technology or a related field. 3 or more years of experience in an industrial setting. Collaborative: success in this role is dependent on cultivating functional relationships with internal and external stakeholders. All passion, no politics. Self-directed: takes responsibility for completing work, seeking training opportunities, etc. Troubleshooting: adapts skills to solve unfamiliar problems. Prioritization: balances (typically) 2-3 projects at a time, often with differing launch timelines.
