About the Opportunity
A growing mechanical contractor in the Greater Boston area is looking to add a Mechanical Estimator to their team.
The company specialises in commercial, industrial, and municipal HVAC and plumbing systems, with a strong pipeline of unique public-sector and infrastructure projects. They are known for delivering technically complex work across schools, government facilities, and large-scale retrofit projects.
This is a hybrid opportunity offering exposure to a diverse range of municipal and institutional projects.
You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates across mechanical scopes, working closely with leadership, project management, and field teams.
- Prepare detailed estimates for HVAC, plumbing, and piping scopes
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documentation
- Perform quantity take-offs and cost analysis
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Develop and submit competitive proposals
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs
- Identify value engineering opportunities
- Support project handover to operations teams post-award
- Public schools and higher education facilities
- Municipal and state-funded buildings
- Commercial developments and renovations
- Mechanical upgrades and retrofit projects
- Infrastructure and government facilities
- 2 years' experience in mechanical estimating (HVAC and/or plumbing)
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications
- Experience with estimating/take-off software (e.g. Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Trimble)
- Knowledge of public bid processes is a plus
- Strong communication and organisational skills
