Field Service Technician – Industrial Packaging Equipment

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to support customers across the region. This position plays a key role in the testing, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of industrial and secondary packaging machinery at customer sites. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical and electrical expertise, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and foundational PLC programming capabilities.

Position Overview

As a Field Service Technician, you will travel extensively to customer locations to install, service, and repair industrial packaging equipment. You will represent our client on-site, providing exceptional technical support and exceptional customer service while ensuring equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Service and Repair

• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on industrial packaging equipment.
• Perform equipment installations, routine maintenance, and repairs; lead and supervise installation crews as needed.
• Interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to plan and execute service tasks.
• Use PLC knowledge to establish communications, identify faults, and make minor program adjustments.
• Conduct film audits and resolve film-related equipment performance issues.

Customer Service and Relationship Management

• Provide clear, professional communication with customers regarding diagnostics, repair progress, and service timelines.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships through on-site support and remote troubleshooting.
• Identify potential sales opportunities such as maintenance programs, retrofit projects, spare parts kits, and equipment upgrades; collaborate with the sales team to advance qualified leads.

Documentation and Compliance

• Submit accurate and timely service reports, quotes, expense reports, and inventory updates.
• Properly label, document, and return defective or replaced parts.
• Follow all safety procedures and protocols required by both the client and customers.

Teamwork and Leadership

• Collaborate with local and national service teams to support consistent and high-quality service delivery.
• Mentor and train junior maintenance personnel on equipment, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

• Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Technology, or 5 years of recent hands-on experience working with secondary packaging equipment.
• Proven experience repairing packaging equipment such as case erectors, shrink film, and stretch film systems.

Technical Skills

• Basic PLC programming and troubleshooting (ability to write simple logic and make minor program changes).
• Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Salesforce CRM.

General Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, kneel, stand, bend, and handle tools routinely.
• Must supply and maintain personal tools and test equipment.
• Strong communication skills for both customer-facing conversations and written documentation.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and up-to-date registration and insurance.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background checks and drug testing.
• Forklift operation proficiency required.
• Must be willing and able to travel 75 percent of the time.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
