The Lieutenant, under the administrative direction of the Captain, will provide daily direction to the Correctional Staff as related to the shift operation of the Luzerne County Division of Corrections, including the care, custody and control of inmate population.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Establishes priorities during peak activities and directs Correctional staff, as required, to meet Title 37 and Division's performance objectives. Conducts daily operation as defined by the Departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), making daily rounds throughout the facility. Informs the Captain of any misconducts by staff or inmates. Evaluates crisis situations and directs the workforce's response appropriately. Supervises key control, security device control, weapons disbursement, and radio control. Authorizes use of force and restraints in appropriate situations. Determines appropriate temporary inmate classifications and cell placement. Assists Captain in monitoring sick, personal and vacation leave times for staff. Maintains a professional relationship with outside groups, including other county agencies, community agencies, volunteers, visitors and the community in general. Relates to inmates without discrimination regardless of race, creed, religion, sexual orientation and nature of the offense. Maintains all federal PREA standards and responsibilities under the act.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Minimum qualifications include: a High School diploma, supplemented by training in a correctional field, five (5) years of related criminal justice experience, which must include two (2) years of supervision of staff. Candidate must submit to random drug testing and pass a criminal background check. Candidate must maintain a flexible schedule to be readily available during weekends, holidays, additional shifts and emergencies. The County of Luzerne is an EEO/ADA employer
