Job Overview:
The R&D Program Project Manager is a dynamic newly created role responsible for the design, testing, and performance of building facades, windows, and window systems in accordance with customer requirements; structurally sound, energy-efficient, compliant with building codes and standards.
This role is vital for balancing customer needs with critical engineering requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical design and analysis of high-performance window, door, and curtain wall systems for commercial and residential projects. This role requires a strong understanding of project management, glazing fundamentals, building codes, building materials product certifications, and system modelling to ensure our products meet the highest standards for performance, durability, and code compliance.
The R&D Program Project Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive the product lifecycle from ideation to launch and profitability. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, influence-based leadership, and hands-on execution to deliver exceptional products that meet market needs and exceed customer expectations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule, and manage high priority product development and installation projects. Work with customers, glaziers, 3rd party testing laboratories, production, and leadership to maintain project schedules and timelines.
- Identify and remove programmatic roadblocks to support the on-time completion of projects. Identify risks and support mitigation. Manage project dependencies and critical path activities
- Communicate project goals and objectives, status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and leadership in a clear and concise manner. Manage project scope and change to ensure project goals are met. Ensure appropriate approvals are obtained for any changes.
- Drive alignment within the organization, including sales, marketing, operations, scaling, R&D, finance, and the executive leadership team for product development.
- Lead execution planning of product releases and set expectations for new features, enhancements, and derivatives.
- Manage product documentation, including technical specifications, case studies, application notes, user manuals and other key customer collateral, software, and demonstration systems.
- Lead the design and engineering of new and existing fenestration products, including but not limited to windows and window systems.
- Coordinate and manage individual product testing for thermal performance (U-values), air and water infiltration, and structural integrity, ensuring all products meet or exceed industry standards. Perform structural calculations and analysis to ensure fenestration systems can withstand environmental loads.
- Stay up-to-date on all relevant building codes, industry standards (e.g., ASTM, IBC), and certifications (e.g., IGCC, NAMI), providing technical guidance to design and project teams.
- Advise on the selection and application of materials, including aluminum, glass, composites, and sealants, based on project requirements and performance goals.
- Work closely with architects, manufacturers, and installation teams to ensure the seamless integration of fenestration systems into building designs.
- Provide engineering support to resolve technical problems that arise during the quoting, negotiating, and installation phases of a project
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 7-years’ experience in glazing, framing, and façade design and development.
- BS degree in engineering or the sciences with a preference for an advanced degree
- Experience modeling glazing, windows, and framing systems in Windows 7.8 including THERM file generation.
- Strong experience with BIM and Revit.
- Experience in framing system and façade design including structural and wind loads
- Experience optimizing façade systems to positively impact whole building energy consumption and operating carbon impact.
- Ability to oversee third party software developers for creation of internal and customer facing models, calculators, or simulators.
- Hands-on leader with a will not fail attitude who leads by example.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills internal and external to the company.
- Ability to travel up to 25% annually within North America.
