Key Responsibilities
- Lead optical system validation and integration at the switch and rack level, including end-to-end path testing from transceivers to host systems.
- Perform optical link bring-up, functional validation, and stress testing of 400G/800G/1.6T modules across various switch platforms.
- Design and execute comprehensive test plans to evaluate performance under realistic data center configurations and traffic loads.
- Analyze system-level performance metrics such as BER, signal integrity, power budget, insertion loss, and FEC margins.
- Collaborate with Signal Integrity (SI) teams to validate host-board compatibility and optimize performance.
- Partner with hardware, firmware, and transceiver vendors to troubleshoot and resolve cross-layer integration issues.
- Drive root cause analysis for failures identified during validation and document findings and corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain automated test setups and scripts using Python or other scripting tools.
- Interface with network architects and deployment teams to translate system requirements into detailed validation specifications.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- 3 years of hands-on experience in optical system validation or integration within datacom or telecom environments.
- Deep understanding of optical transceivers (e.g., QSFP-DD, OSFP), fiber connectivity, and high-speed signaling principles.
- Direct experience working with switch ASIC platforms and network hardware.
- Familiarity with Ethernet standards: IEEE 802.3bs, 802.3ck, 802.3dj, etc.
- Hands-on proficiency with test instruments including BERTs, oscilloscopes, optical power meters, and protocol analyzers.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for test automation and data analysis.
- Proven experience in lab environments managing test fixtures, fiber handling, and cabling.
