The Central Supply Coordinator is responsible for ordering, maintaining, and distributing medical supplies, nursing supplies, and durable medical equipment (DME) to support daily operations and ensure quality resident care. This role plays a key part in inventory management, organization, safety, and regulatory compliance within a skilled nursing and long-term care environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Central Supply & Inventory Management
- Order, receive, stock, and maintain all medical and nursing supplies used throughout the facility.
- Ensure supplies are readily available and properly distributed to all units.
- Complete quarterly inventories of medical/nursing supplies and Durable Medical Equipment (DME).
- Monitor supply usage and communicate needs to leadership to prevent shortages.
- Maintain accurate and organized inventory records.
- Assist with upkeep of DME, including cleaning, storage, and replacement when necessary.
- Ensure proper storage, availability, and accessibility of equipment.
- Monitor sharps disposal and complete container change-outs as required.
- Maintain and ensure safe storage of oxygen.
- Maintain adequate stock of nursing forms at nurses’ stations.
- Assist in keeping nurses’ stations clean, organized, and stocked.
- Maintain nurses’ station fax machines, including replacing ink cartridges and refilling paper.
- Assist with responding to phone calls as needed.
- Prepare resident information and supplies for appointments, transfers, or discharges.
- Assist nursing staff with supply-related needs to support resident care.
- Participate in quality assurance activities related to supply management.
- Follow all infection control, safety, and facility policies.
- Assist with filing and maintenance of nursing department records related to supplies or equipment as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
