What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant Financial Reporting position at Lutz?
*Only the most qualified candidates will be contacted
If you’re an accountant who likes to understand the “why” behind the numbers, this is an opportunity to step into a highly visible financial reporting role with our client, a growing, sophisticated organization.
You’ll join a collaborative finance team where good ideas are welcomed; people are trusted to own their work, and there’s room to grow into leadership. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys complex accounting, can pivot when priorities change, and isn’t afraid to dig into the details when something doesn’t look right.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and analyze consolidated financial statements across multiple entities
- Take a lead role in the annual financial statement audit and work closely with external auditors
- Review general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting workpapers
- Analyze weekly accounts payable activity and investigate unusual or unexpected spending
- Review accounts receivable balances, including valuation, allowances, and reserve calculations
- Prepare and review complex accounting schedules and financial analyses
- Support insurance-related audit work and reserve calculations
- Perform variance and trend analysis to identify issues and explain financial results
- Evaluate existing reporting processes and identify opportunities for automation and greater efficiency
- Help strengthen accounting processes and controls as the organization continues to grow
- Provide guidance and coaching to other members of the accounting team
What They’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 4 years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, or audit experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation
- Experience working with multi-entity and/or consolidated financial reporting
- Strong audit background; candidates with heavier audit experience are preferred over primarily tax-focused backgrounds
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to dig into transactions and determine whether the numbers make sense
- CPA strongly preferred
The Right Fit
You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
- Adaptable and comfortable changing direction as priorities evolve
- Curious enough to investigate the story behind the numbers
- Motivated, hands-on, and willing to jump into complex problems
- Collaborative and low ego
- Comfortable juggling competing deadlines
- Interested in technology, automation, and new tools—including opportunities to leverage AI
- Able to delegate while still maintaining accountability for the final product
- Someone who enjoys teaching others not only what needs to be done, but why it matters.
