Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Optometric Technician to join our dedicated eye care team. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, assisting with their needs and ensuring a smooth, efficient clinic experience. Your expertise will support the optometrists by preparing patients for examinations, managing medical records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Duties
- Greet patients warmly and perform intake procedures to gather medical history and reason for visit
- Assist with patient positioning and ensure proper aseptic technique during clinical procedures
- Prepare exam rooms and assist with optical services such as frame selection and lens fitting
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) including documentation of patient interactions and clinical notes.
- Support optometry procedures by assisting with visual acuity tests, refraction, and other diagnostic tests
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and ensure accurate medical coding and billing practices
- Keep clinic areas organized, sanitized, and compliant with safety standards to promote a healthy environment for staff and patients
Skills
- Strong understanding of patient care principles within a clinical setting
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmology concepts
- Experience with EMR systems
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security
- Ability to perform intake assessments, vital signs measurement, and basic ophthalmic testing
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatrics
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
