What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Navigator, HMRF HEART, Secure Foundation Project position at Lutheran Social Services Of The Nat?
Coming October 2025: Community Navigator – FORGE / HEART / Ready4Life
Washington, DC (Hybrid / Onsite)
Picture a young father in DC who’s determined to provide for his child but feels overwhelmed by barriers—unsteady employment, navigating social services, or struggling with housing. Imagine a young parent trying to finish school while raising a baby, unsure where to turn.
As a Community Navigator, you are the bridge between these families and the resources that can help them thrive. You’ll show up in neighborhoods, schools, and community spaces—not as an authority figure, but as a partner who listens, connects, and advocates.
In this role, you’ll help participants access parenting programs, employment supports, housing resources, legal assistance, and more. You’ll walk beside them as they build healthier relationships, strengthen family foundations, and move toward greater stability.
What You’ll Do
Engage & Recruit: Connect with young fathers, parenting youth, and at-risk young adults through outreach and workshops.
Navigate & Support: Conduct assessments, create action plans, and connect participants to education, employment, housing, and parenting resources.
Build Partnerships: Maintain strong ties with local service providers to ensure culturally responsive referrals.
Advocate & Empower: Help participants build confidence in navigating systems like child welfare, education, and employment agencies.
Collaborate & Represent: Partner with community groups and represent the program at local forums and events.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in outreach, case navigation, or peer support (especially with youth or parenting populations).
Strong communication, cultural competence, and relationship-building skills.
(Preferred) Bilingual ability and/or lived experience as a young parent or father.
Why It Matters
FORGE, HEART, and Ready4Life are programs that strengthen families, relationships, and futures. As a Community Navigator, you are a trusted guide who ensures participants don’t just survive but have the tools and confidence to thrive.
Expected start date: October 2025 (pending funding award).
We are pre-recruiting now—express your interest today to be considered as soon as the program launches.
