POSITION: Assistant Director of the Muhlenberg Residence
REPORTS TO: Assistant Executive Director for Residential Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time/Management
EXEMPT/NONEXEMPT: Exempt
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Muhlenberg Residence serves extremely vulnerable individuals, including people with histories of homelessness and/or mental illness. The Assistant Director of the Muhlenberg Residence provides leadership, supervision and training to the onsite social service staff. The Assistant Director also serves as the liaison between participants and the Assistant Executive Director. The Assistant Director supports the Assistant Executive Director in managing the day-to-day operations of the facility and the program at the Muhlenberg Residence. The Assistant Director works alongside the Assistant Executive Director to create and execute work plans/goals to meet the ever-changing needs of the participants and the facility at Muhlenberg.
This is a 24-hour program. The Assistant Director is classified as an essential worker, and as such accepts responsibility for the completion of their critical services to participants, on site, even during times of emergency. These include, but are not limited to, emergencies caused by weather, nationwide pandemics, civil unrest, and domestic threat.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
• Provides leadership, guidance and administrative supervision to social service staff and oversees the Job Development/Vocational component of the Muhlenberg program.
• Oversees the rental and maintenance department and security contractor in the event of Director’s extended absence.
• Provides weekly one-on-one supervision for social services staff.
• Conducts case conferences; resolves participant issues.
• Reviews service plans, program notes, and other participant documentation to ensure comprehensiveness and compliance with funder, regulatory and LSSNY requirements. Signs off on final documents prior to filing in participant charts.
• Audits participant records to ensure compliance with funder, regulatory and LSSNY requirements.
• Conducts regular staff meetings.
• Provides training to social services staff.
• Provides ongoing feedback and annual job performance evaluations to case managers.
• Supervises incident reporting; strategizes follow-up with social services team.
• Conducts participant assessment and crisis intervention.
• Participates in participant intake process, including selection and screening of residents.
• Supervises interns assisting with social services work.
• Prepares monthly reports (including statistics and other data) for program funding sources and agency reporting purposes.
• Assists Assistant Executive Director with annual reports.
• Approves timecards and changes in staff schedules; monitors attendance of social service staff.
• Completes monthly calendar of events and schedules group activities.
• Assists Assistant Executive Director with Human Resource matters, including interviewing and hiring, performance improvement plans and terminations.
• Coordinates with Assistant Executive Director regarding office supply orders; may handle petty cash custodial duties and other administrative tasks if needed.
• Serves as on-site liaison for participants.
• Develops and maintains relationships with community resources.
• Assists Assistant Executive Director with other functions related to the program, especially in overseeing day-to-day operations of the facility in Assistant Executive Director’s absence.
• On call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
• Adheres to confidentiality protocols outlined by the agency.
• Demonstrates commitment to social justice and promotes equity by identifying and removing barriers, facilitating learning, cultivating community, and empowering others.

• Other Muhlenberg staff (such as Rental Agent, maintenance personnel and security contractor) as requested by Assistant Executive Director.
EDUCATION:
• Licensed Master Social Worker
EXPERIENCE:
• Two years (minimum) experience as a supervisor in the field of social services.
• Experience working with people with histories of substance abuse, HIV, homelessness and mental illness.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Strong leadership/team building/coaching skills.
• Excellent clinical skills.
• Strong writing and speaking skills.
• Excellent administrative skills; highly organized and detail oriented.
• Strong time management; able to handle multiple tasks and assignments at once.
• Flexible; able to work some holidays and weekends.
• Sensitive to intersectionality, different cultures, housing equality and a demonstrated ability to work within a social/racial justice framework.
• Proficient in Internet Navigation, E-mail, and Microsoft Word.
• Bilingual a plus, preferably in Spanish.
Salary : $80,000 - $85,000
