Position Summary
The Driver is responsible for transporting residents, staff, and essential supplies to and from various locations, providing a crucial link in the daily operations of the shelter
Some of the duties include:
- Transport shelter residents to scheduled appointments, medical visits, and other essential destinations
- Transport residents and their belongings when they move out
- Transport meals to overflow sites
- Transport staff, volunteers, and board members during various community engagement events
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure the vehicles are in good working condition; report any issues promptly and schedule regular maintenance, as needed
- Maintain a respectful and supportive demeanor when dealing with shelter clients, offering assistance as necessary and providing information about schedules and procedures
- Coordinate transportation schedules to accommodate shelter needs and ensure punctuality for appointments
- Maintain accurate records of all trips, including destinations, times, and any relevant notes
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations to ensure the safety of clients and other road users
- Communicate effectively with all interested parties to ensure a smooth and coordinated transportation process
- Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, such as accidents or vehicle breakdowns, and follow established protocols
- Actively participates in quality improvement activities of the program/agency
- Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct in terms of privacy of client information and adherence to confidentiality policies & upholds the service philosophy
- Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission of the agency
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent; some experience working with the homeless, chemically dependent, or mentally disabled individuals; and effective communication and crisis intervention skills. A valid Ohio driver’s license, proof of insurance with less than 4 points on driving record is required.
