The Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising direct resident care staff and ensuring that the personal, medical, and daily living needs of residents are met in a safe, compassionate, and professional manner. This position oversees medication administration, monitors resident health status, ensures compliance with care plans, and supports activities of daily living while promoting resident safety, dignity, and independence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Staff Supervision & Coordination (40%)
- Supervise Resident Assistants/CNAs and assign daily care responsibilities.
- Provide guidance, support, and oversight to ensure quality resident care.
- Monitor staff adherence to care plans, infection control standards, and safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with nursing leadership and other departments.
- Resident Care & Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) (15%)
- Assist residents with hygiene, including bathing, grooming, peri-care, nail care, and oral care.
- Support residents with mobility, transfers, and positioning, using assistive devices as needed.
- Take and record vital signs, weights, and intake/output per facility policy.
- Provide meal assistance, including serving, feeding, and encouraging fluid intake.
- Medication Administration & Clinical Support (15%)
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and document appropriately.
- Review Medication Administration Records (MARs) for accuracy.
- Monitor medication supplies, check expiration dates, and ensure timely medication orders.
- Count and monitor controlled medications according to policy.
- Assist with physician rounds, orders, and chart reviews when required.
- Resident Monitoring, Safety & Documentation (15%)
- Conduct resident rounds and monitor resident safety throughout the shift.
- Respond to emergency situations and Lifeline calls promptly.
- Maintain accurate documentation in resident records and facility logs.
- Report incidents, health concerns, or emergencies to the Director as appropriate.
- Compliance and Training (10%)
- Follow HIPAA privacy regulations to maintain confidentiality for residents and staff.
- Attend all mandatory in-services, meetings, and training sessions.
- Provide exceptional customer service through compassionate and empathetic care to residents and families.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Previous experience in assisted living or long-term care preferred.
- Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in South Carolina, maintained in good standing. CPR certification.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact empathetically with residents, families, and coworkers. Excellent observational skills and attention to detail. Ability to document care accurately and follow directions. Ability to supervise staff and coordinate resident care activities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and turn, move, and transport patients.
- Capacity to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and physical activities, such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Work is performed in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
