The Cleveland Lutheran High School Association (CLHSA) is looking for a part-time Bookkeeper to work in our Finance Department, under the direction of the CLHSA Finance Director. The Cleveland Lutheran High School Association operates Lutheran West and Lutheran East - two Christian schools in the Cleveland area. The ideal bookkeeper will demonstrate commitment to the ministry of the CLHSA and its mission to prepare and equip students to excel as servants, leaders, and learners who live as disciples who are rooted and grounded in the love of Christ.
GENERAL SUMMARY
The duties and responsibilities of the Bookkeeper focus on general bookkeeping responsibilities required to record cash receipt activities and monthly close entries. The Bookkeeper is required to understand and ensure accounting entries are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and are carried out timely, accurately, completely.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Create bookkeeping entries for cash receipts activities and monthly close entries. Entries are made to an online accounting system.
- Make bank deposits through an online banking system. Cash deposits at a branch may occur infrequently.
- Ensure timeliness, completeness, and accuracy of recordkeeping.
- Maintain orderly and detailed records to support bookkeeping entries.
- Generate system reports as well as use Excel to support bookkeeping activities.
- Perform research and analysis necessary to ensure appropriate accounting treatment of business activities. Effort entails both self-initiation as well as by direction from Finance Director and staff.
- Have a basic knowledge of intercompany accounting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
- Three to five years’ experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting.
REQUIRED SKILL / QUALIFICATIONS
– Possess a degree of skill in understanding bookkeeping responsibilities necessary to properly record business activities for business management and auditors. Ability to institute effective bookkeeping controls required to ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial reports. Ability to research financial records and inquire of business activities in support of bookkeeping activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Detail oriented, organized.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS – Ability to communicate with finance personnel and business management on the bookkeeping activities performed. Ability to discuss with mid-level management to ensure business activities can be recorded for bookkeeping purposes. Ability to recognize and resolve issues in support of their responsibilities. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.
REASONING SKILLS - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make proper decisions in determining appropriate bookkeeping responsibilities.
LEADERSHIP – Ability to work within a team work environment by maintaining a positive and professional demeanor and appearance.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency with Accounting software
- Proficiency with Excel
- Proficiency with Windows or Google Software Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Google Docs, OneDrive, etc.).
