Summary
This position is one of multiple Production Managers who each oversee a defined area of production and report directly to the Operations Manager. Working collaboratively, the Production Managers ensure that schedules are met, quality remains exceptional, and the entire shop runs efficiently and safely.
As a Production Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating people, equipment, and processes to achieve production goals. You will identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements that increase output and consistency while promoting teamwork, engagement, and professional growth among your team members. The Machine shop is a 1st shift operation Monday through Friday while the Heat Treatment operation is a M-F 24/5 operation
Essential Responsibilities:
· Lead and coordinate daily production activities to meet established goals for quality, delivery, and efficiency.
· Monitor schedules, equipment utilization, and material flow to ensure smooth, efficient operations.
· Troubleshoot process challenges, determine root causes, and implement practical, lasting solutions.
· Monitor workflows to understand where processes run fast or slow and implement changes that improve efficiency and throughput.
· Supervise and engage machinists, operators, and team leads with positive motivation, communication, and hands-on support.
· Foster collaboration and cooperation between departments to enhance overall productivity and teamwork.
· Identify, track, and use performance trends and areas for improvement through analysis of key metrics (output, downtime, scrap rates, efficiency).
· Lead and participate in continuous improvement programs (Lean, 5S, Kaizen) that streamline operations and reduce waste.
· Collaborate with Quality Control, Engineering, and Maintenance to maintain standards and resolve cross-functional challenges.
· Ensure a safe, compliant, and well-organized workplace through regular inspections and proactive safety leadership.
Skills and Experience:
· Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred (equivalent experience accepted).
· 5 years of experience in machining, manufacturing, or production leadership.
· Strong understanding of Swiss-type CNC lathes, metalworking processes, and production planning.
· Knowledge of ACME screw machines a plus.
· Experience with Batch/IQ furnaces and/or the following: Heat Treatment, AutoCAD, Solid Works, PartMaker, G code, or M code is a plus.
· Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop employees in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
· Skilled at identifying bottlenecks, solving problems, and implementing practical solutions that improve output.
· Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement practices.
· Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
· Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
