What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Operations Coordinator position at Lush Scapes?
Lush Scapes is a growing Charleston landscape company specializing in seasonal color, fine gardening, landscape maintenance and design-build work for beautiful residential properties throughout the Lowcountry.
We care a lot about the details — the gardens, the clients who trust us with their homes, and the people doing the work.
We’ve invested heavily in technology and systems to help our team operate well, and now we’re looking for someone who can become a central part of making that system work every day.
This isn’t quite an administrative assistant position.
It isn’t quite a traditional landscape manager position either.
It’s an operations role for someone whose brain naturally starts organizing things when the rest of the room gets busy.
What you'll do
Our field teams need to know where they're going, what they're doing, what materials they need and what matters at each property.
You'll help make that happen.
You'll work primarily from our North Charleston facility using our own operating platform, Canopy, to help coordinate the day.
A typical morning may include:
- Opening the office and preparing for the crews.
- Reviewing the Daily Brief.
- Helping lead the morning team meeting.
- Checking routes, assignments, materials and special property notes.
- Handling call-outs and schedule changes.
- Making sure yesterday's unfinished issues don't disappear.
- Sending the crews out prepared.
Once the teams are moving, the job becomes the control center.
You'll review field photos and observations, communicate with crews, create follow-up work, adjust schedules, coordinate materials and make sure issues get resolved rather than lost.
You'll also help with things like:
- Reviewing visit photos and notes.
- Creating corrective or follow-up visits.
- Routine client scheduling communication.
- Business calendar coordination.
- Checking time and visit records for obvious problems.
- Preparing the next day's routes and Daily Brief.
- Escalating the things that truly require an owner or horticultural expert.
What we're trying to build
Our owners currently carry too much of the daily operating knowledge of the company.
We're changing that.
We want information, processes and decisions to live in the company — not just in someone's head.
You won't be expected to arrive knowing every plant, every property or every answer.
You will be expected to learn, use good judgment and become increasingly comfortable making decisions within your role.
When the answer is known, we want you to find it and act.
When something requires expertise, we want you to recognize that and bring the right person useful information — not simply pass along the problem.
Who may be great at this
Your exact résumé matters less to us than how you think.
You might come from:
- Hospitality or hotel operations.
- Construction or home-services coordination.
- Property management.
- Medical or veterinary office operations.
- Dispatch, logistics or service coordination.
- Executive assistance with real operational responsibility.
- Project coordination.
- Landscape or horticultural operations.
- A professional career you're returning to after time away from the workforce.
Landscape experience is helpful.
It is not required.
What matters to us
You should be someone who:
- Likes creating order.
- Notices things other people miss.
- Finishes what you start.
- Is comfortable learning technology.
- Can manage several things at once without becoming frantic.
- Communicates clearly and kindly.
- Can respectfully tell someone, "We need to fix this."
- Knows when to make a decision and when to ask for help.
- Is curious and willing to learn.
- Takes pride in doing things well.
Most importantly, you should care.
We're not looking for someone who wants to sit at a desk waiting for the next assignment.
We're looking for someone who eventually starts seeing what needs to happen before someone asks.
The environment
Lush Scapes is a small, family-owned company.
We want the office to be professional without being corporate, organized without being rigid, and accountable without becoming a miserable place to work.
Questions are welcome.
Ideas are welcome.
Mistakes should become lessons.
Good work should be noticed.
We want people to laugh, enjoy the people they work with and be proud of what we create together.
We're still building and improving parts of the company, so someone who needs everything perfectly defined probably won't love this.
Someone who enjoys helping build a better way of doing things might.
Schedule & compensation
This position is Monday through Friday and primarily on-site. The beginning of the day matters because our field teams start early.
We are open to approximately 30–40 hours per week for the right person rather than insisting every great candidate fit a traditional 40-hour office schedule.
Compensation: $26–$30 per hour, depending on experience, leadership ability and overall fit.
There is meaningful room for this role to grow. For the right person, the path could lead toward increasing operational responsibility and eventually an Operations Manager role.
One final thing
We don't expect you to arrive knowing Lush Scapes.
We do expect you to want to learn it.
- If you're unusually organized, enjoy people, like solving problems, are comfortable with technology and get a strange amount of satisfaction from seeing a complicated day come together exactly as it should, we'd like to meet you.
Salary : $26 - $30
