Position Summary

The Fire Sprinkler Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Fire Sprinkler Service Department, including inspections, service calls, repairs, emergency response, scheduling, technician supervision, customer relations, estimating, and ensuring compliance with applicable NFPA standards and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements. This position plays a critical leadership role in maintaining high-quality workmanship, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the sprinkler service department.
  • Schedule and coordinate technicians for inspections, service, repairs, and emergency calls.
  • Prioritize emergency service requests while maintaining scheduled work.
  • Monitor technician productivity and labor utilization.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
  • Review completed work orders for accuracy before billing.
  • Monitor department profitability and labor performance.
  • Assist with department budgeting and forecasting.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical support to field technicians.
  • Troubleshoot complex sprinkler system issues.
  • Review repair recommendations for code compliance and technical accuracy.
  • Ensure all work complies with:
  • NFPA 13
  • NFPA 14
  • NFPA 20
  • NFPA 25
  • Local Fire Code
  • NYC DOB/FDNY requirements (where applicable)
  • Assist technicians with difficult field situations.

Customer Service

  • Maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Respond to customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Meet with customers to discuss repair recommendations and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding sprinkler system deficiencies.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction throughout each project.

Estimating & Sales

  • Review inspection deficiencies.
  • Prepare repair proposals and estimates.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and upgrades.
  • Work closely with customers to convert repair recommendations into approved work.
  • Assist in developing maintenance agreements.

Personnel Management

  • Supervise sprinkler service technicians.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
  • Train and mentor technicians.
  • Enforce company policies and safety procedures.
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring new employees.
  • Address attendance, disciplinary, and performance issues.
  • Ensure technicians maintain required certifications and licenses.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a culture of workplace safety.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Monitor vehicle inspections and tool inventories.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed properly.
  • Maintain compliance with all licensing requirements.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Review daily service tickets.
  • Approve technician timesheets.
  • Monitor open work orders.
  • Coordinate inspections with customers and AHJs.
  • Manage department inventory and material ordering.
  • Work closely with accounting regarding billing issues.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7–10 years of commercial fire sprinkler experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of sprinkler installation, inspection, testing, and repair.
  • Extensive knowledge of NFPA standards.
  • Ability to read blueprints and fire protection drawings.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and service management software.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET Certification (Level II, III, or IV preferred)
  • FDNY Certificates of Fitness (where applicable)
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Experience with commercial, healthcare, industrial, and high-rise fire protection systems.
  • Experience working with NYC DOB and FDNY.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visit active construction and occupied job sites.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Occasional after-hours and emergency response may be required.

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Typical start time: 6:30 AM
  • Availability for emergency service coordination and after-hours support as needed.

Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour
