Description

Lumos & Associates is currently seeking an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to join our growing team of water/wastewater design professionals. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced hydrogeologist to lead, manage, and grow complex water resource projects across Nevada and neighboring states. The Senior Hydrogeologist will provide technical leadership, project management, and client-facing expertise on a wide range of groundwater and water infrastructure projects while mentoring staff and contributing to the strategic growth of Lumos’ water resources practice.

The Senior Hydrogeologist will serve as a key technical and project leader supporting groundwater exploration, aquifer testing, production wells, hydrographic basin monitoring, dewatering systems, well assessments, and integrated water resource projects. The role combines advanced technical work, project execution, client interaction, and internal leadership within Lumos’ Engineering Division.

The successful candidate will build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, regulators, consultants, and internal team members while advancing Lumos’ hydrogeologic capabilities and service offerings.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills:

  • Advanced technical expertise in applied hydrogeology and water resources with strong attention to detail and data quality.
  • Extensive experience with well design and construction, aquifer testing, dewatering systems, water chemistry / water quality analysis, and groundwater investigations.
  • Strong technical writing and data visualization skills, including preparation of high-quality reports, figures, and tables.
  • Proficiency with industry software (e.g., AQTESOLV, Surfer, GIS, and AutoCAD). Groundwater modeling and Python or other programming experience are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and schedules concurrently.
  • Excellent professional communication skills with proven success working directly with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of independent decision-making.
  • Interest in advancing Lumos’ hydrogeology practice through innovation, efficiency, and service development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage hydrogeologic and water resource projects from planning through execution and reporting.
  • Oversee drilling, well construction, aquifer testing, and groundwater monitoring programs.
  • Provide technical direction, data interpretation, and quality control for hydrogeologic analyses and reports.
  • Serve as a primary client and regulatory liaison, including preparing scopes, budgets, and presentations.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced staff; provide technical review and field oversight.
  • Support business development through proposal preparation and identification of new business opportunities.
  • Coordinate field activities while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and project efficiency.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated water resource solutions.
  • Travel to project sites to oversee drilling and construction activities, often requiring off-road driving and on-foot traversal in rugged terrain.

Requirements

  • S. degree from a four-year College or University in Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent area of study; M.S. degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 8 years project experience in water resources and hydrogeology work.
  • Professional Geologist (P.G.) and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure, preferred.
  • Proven experience leading projects and mentoring technical staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, including maintenance of detailed technical records and field documentation.
  • Safety-oriented with the ability to conduct and oversee fieldwork in varied weather and site conditions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including client and public presentations.
  • Valid driver license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.
