Spend summer 2027 as a paid Construction Materials Testing Intern in Reno and Carson City, testing construction materials in the field and the lab. You will work alongside Lumos & Associates technicians, inspectors and engineers on active construction projects, with overtime hours during the busy season. About the Internship In this construction internship with our Construction Division, you will support construction materials testing and inspection activities while learning how construction materials and field conditions are evaluated for compliance with project plans and specifications. This seasonal, full time position runs from mid May through mid August 2027. The busy summer construction season brings overtime opportunities, which vary with project schedules and field needs. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills Strong oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal communication with team members and colleagues. Ability to learn technical knowledge and testing procedures quickly. Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to learn. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Effective time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing project needs. Interest in working in both field and laboratory environments. Areas of Experience & Exposure Assist with field and laboratory testing of construction materials. Visit construction sites and observe and/or perform testing to determine whether results meet requirements identified in project plans and specifications. Learn to read, understand, and interpret construction plans and geotechnical reports. Assist with laboratory data entry using geotechnical software, Microsoft Excel, and other applicable programs. Learn applicable standards and codes related to construction materials testing and inspection. Assist with reports, calculations, documentation, and other construction-related project tasks. Gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Lumos Field Technicians, Field Inspectors, Construction Managers, and engineers. Participate in project meetings, construction site visits, and other field activities as appropriate. Gain exposure to multiple civil engineering disciplines and collaborate with professionals across Construction, Engineering, Structural, and Survey. Requirements Student enrolled in a college or university degree program related to Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Ability to work full-time during the internship period from mid-May through mid-August 2027, including overtime as required by project schedules and field conditions. Ability and willingness to work in both field and laboratory environments. Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to work hours necessary to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines. Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or fewer demerit points.
