Lead Systems Engineer (Satellite Systems)
Location: Boulder, Colorado
A rapidly growing space technology company is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to play a critical role in the development, integration, and delivery of advanced satellite systems. This position is ideal for an experienced systems engineer with a strong electrical engineering background who enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams and driving complex space missions from concept through operations.
You'll serve as a technical leader, helping shape system architecture, manage technical budgets, and ensure successful integration of spacecraft subsystems within a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead system engineering activities across the full satellite development lifecycle, from requirements definition through launch and operations.
- Define and manage spacecraft system requirements, interfaces, and verification plans.
- Drive system architecture trade studies and technical decision-making.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams including electrical, software, mechanical, AIT, GNC, and mission operations.
- Own system-level budgets including power, mass, data, thermal, and performance margins.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and technical readiness activities.
- Support integration, test, launch campaigns, and in-orbit commissioning activities.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and external stakeholders to ensure mission success.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers while promoting engineering best practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- 8 years of experience developing complex aerospace, spacecraft, satellite, or other highly integrated systems.
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering and spacecraft subsystem design.
- Experience leading system engineering activities on satellite or spaceflight programs.
- Demonstrated expertise in requirements management, verification and validation, and interface control.
- Strong understanding of spacecraft subsystems, including power, avionics, communications, ADCS, payloads, and software.
- Experience working through system-level trade studies and technical risk management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
- Previous experience leading systems engineering teams.
- Experience with LEO satellite missions and constellation architectures.
- Familiarity with MBSE tools and methodologies.
- Experience supporting spacecraft integration, testing, launch, and operations.
- Knowledge of ECSS, NASA, or equivalent aerospace development standards.
