Position Summary
The Director of Counseling Services oversees all clinical counseling operations within the PHP. This position ensures compliance with NJAC 10:161B, supervises counseling staff, and guides the development of evidence-based, person-centered treatment practices. The Director reports to the Program Administrator and collaborates closely with medical and psychiatric staff to ensure integrated, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of all clinical counseling services and personnel.
- Ensure that all counseling activities, documentation, and treatment plans meet NJAC 10:161B and agency standards.
- Develop, implement, and review counseling policies, procedures, and quality-assurance programs.
- Deliver and document at least one hour per week of clinical supervision to all counseling staff (individual and group).
- Support program development, including curriculum design, performance improvement, and outcome tracking.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary collaboration among medical, psychiatric, and case-management teams.
- Participate in state and accreditation audits; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Provide clinical training, mentoring, and continuing education for staff.
- Foster a therapeutic, client-centered, trauma-informed culture.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following combinations of credentials:
- LCADC (Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor) Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field; or
- LCSW, LPC, or LMFT CCS (Certified Clinical Supervisor) from The Certification Board
Additional Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in substance-use or behavioral-health treatment.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or administrative experience in a licensed SUD or mental-health program.
- Strong understanding of ASAM criteria, DSM-5, and evidence-based SUD treatment practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
