What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Engineer - AI-Native Full-Stack position at Lumia AI, Inc.?
We are hiring a Product Engineer on behalf of a fast-growing, VC-backed legal tech startup building AI-powered tools for the U.S. immigration industry.
This is a high-impact role for a backend-leaning full-stack engineer who wants to own product features end-to-end — from database design and APIs to user-facing frontend experiences.
You will work directly with the founding team, product team, designers, legal professionals, and early customers to build tools that make complex immigration workflows faster, clearer, and more human.
This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys early-stage startup environments, moves fast, uses AI tools deeply in their engineering workflow, and wants to build technology that has real-world impact.
What you’ll do:
- Own product features end-to-end, including backend architecture, database design, APIs, frontend implementation, testing, and deployment
- Build AI-powered workflows that help legal and immigration professionals move faster
- Work closely with founders, product, legal, and customer-facing teams to deeply understand real user problems
- Improve internal tools used every day by attorneys, paralegals, and operations teams
- Use modern AI coding tools to increase engineering speed while maintaining a high quality bar
- Help scale the company’s platform, product velocity, and engineering systems
- Contribute to product decisions, not just engineering tickets
What we’re looking for:
- 2 years of backend development experience
- Strong Python experience
- Experience with FastAPI, PostgreSQL, containerization, and scalable backend systems
- Comfortable with or excited to ramp quickly on TypeScript, React, and modern frontend tooling
- Experience building products with LLMs, ML systems, or AI-powered workflows
- Strong product sense and ability to think from the user’s perspective
- Ability to work in a fast-moving startup environment with ambiguity and ownership
- Daily hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, or similar tools
- A practical, ownership-driven mindset — someone who fixes problems instead of just pointing them out
Nice to have:
- Experience in a Seed or Series A startup
- Genuine full-stack experience across backend, frontend, and infrastructure
- Experience with AWS, Supabase, LaunchDarkly, Betterstack, or similar tools
- Familiarity with data lakes, data warehouses, transformers, attention mechanisms, or GPU inference
- Experience building MCP servers, custom AI agents, or internal AI developer tooling
- Interest in legal tech, immigration, AI automation, or complex operational workflows
Compensation:
Base salary range: $180,000 – $250,000 per year, depending on experience.
Why this role:
You’ll join an early-stage, VC-backed startup at a key moment of growth. The team is building in a large, underserved market where technology can dramatically improve the experience for immigrants, employers, and legal teams.
This is not a narrow engineering role. You will have real product ownership, work close to the founders, and help shape a platform that can change how immigration work gets done.
The company combines legal expertise, modern software, and AI-powered workflows to make complex immigration processes faster, clearer, and more accessible for individuals, employers, and legal teams.
This is an opportunity to join an early-stage, well-funded company working on a meaningful problem in a large and underserved market.
