What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hardware Engineer position at Lumex Talent?
Senior Avionics Engineer
Location: El Segundo (Onsite)
Base Salary Range: $150,000-$200,000
The Opportunity
A well-funded aerospace pioneer is seeking a Senior Avionics Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of mission-critical subsystems for a new class of high-precision orbital return vehicles. This organization is focused on the complex challenge of autonomous atmospheric entry and hardware recovery, bridging the gap between orbital operations and Earth-side logistics.
The successful candidate will be a cornerstone of the electronics group, responsible for the hardware that guides, controls, and recovers next-generation spacecraft.
Core Responsibilities
- Electrical Architecture: Develop and implement robust electrical architectures, including schematic capture and multi-layer PCBA layout for flight-critical systems.
- Harness Design: Design custom, high-reliability electrical harnesses and oversee their physical construction for space-grade environments.
- Ground Support & HITL: Build and support electrical ground equipment (EGSE) and test hardware, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) and FlatSat configurations.
- Systems Integration: Partner with GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control), Software, and Aerodynamics teams to ensure seamless hardware/firmware synchronization.
- Root-Cause Analysis: Lead troubleshooting and failure analysis for complex electronics issues within both flight and ground systems.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: 6 years of professional experience in avionics or high-reliability electronics, with a proven track record in the aerospace industry.
- Technical Breadth: Strong background in full-lifecycle hardware development—from initial architecture through to flight-ready production.
- Testing Proficiency: Practical experience with HITL testing environments and validating systems for extreme environmental conditions.
- Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work across disciplines, translating complex aerodynamic and GNC requirements into functional electrical hardware.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ability to work on ITAR-regulated technology (U.S. Person status).
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
