As we continue to scale nationally, we are expanding our underwriting team with a strong E&S-focused Commercial Property Underwriter.
The Opportunity
This role is designed for an underwriter who understands the nuances of the non-admitted market — creativity in structure, thoughtful risk selection, speed in execution, and strong broker engagement.
You’ll have meaningful autonomy, direct broker interaction, and visibility into portfolio strategy while leveraging modern underwriting technology that reduces administrative burden.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal E&S commercial property business within delegated authority
- Evaluate distressed, CAT-exposed, loss-driven, or complex property risks
- Analyze COPE data, financials, loss runs, and catastrophe modeling outputs
- Structure manuscript terms, deductibles, sublimits, and exclusions as needed
- Drive profitable growth within appetite and aggregation guidelines
- Maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers and select retail partners
- Monitor rate adequacy, exposure management, and CAT aggregation
- Contribute to underwriting guidelines refinement and product development
- Partner with actuarial, claims, and leadership on portfolio performance
What We’re Looking For
- 2–5 years of commercial property underwriting experience (E&S strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of non-admitted market dynamics and broker distribution
- Experience underwriting CAT-exposed property (wind, hail, wildfire, flood)
- Ability to assess distressed or hard-to-place risks
- Comfort with data tools and analytics to support pricing decisions
- Production-oriented mindset with disciplined underwriting judgment
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Preferred:
- Experience with middle-market or large property schedules
