Position Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable, trustworthy, and customer-focused Buyer to join our team. This position plays a key role in evaluating and purchasing gold, gemstones and other precious metals, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and transparency in every transaction. Ideal candidates will have experience with metal testing, value assessment, and a passion for delivering honest and educational customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate gold, silver, and platinum items (scrap, jewelry, estate pieces) for purity, weight, and condition.
• Accurately test and grade items using industry tools (acid testing, electronic testers, XRF, etc.).
• Determine fair market value based on current precious metal pricing and company criteria.
• Communicate clearly with customers about pricing and process in a respectful, non-pressuring manner.
• Document purchases accurately in the point-of-sale and inventory systems.
• Maintain compliance with local and federal regulations regarding gold buying and resale.
• Work closely with inventory, repair, and estate departments to determine resale potential.
• Protect company assets by following all security and identification procedures.
• Stay up to date on gold market trends, industry best practices, and regulatory updates.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience buying gold, appraising precious metals, or working in jewelry retail or pawn environments.
• Strong understanding of gold purity (karats), weight conversions, and spot pricing.
• Skilled in using gold testing equipment and tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping accuracy.
• Strong communication skills; able to explain technical details to customers in a friendly, honest manner.
• High ethical standards and integrity in all customer and financial transactions.
• Basic computer skills and comfort with inventory and POS systems.
• Preferred: experience with estate jewelry, GIA or AGS coursework, gemology training.
