JOB SUMMARY
The Host is responsible for creating the first and last impression of the guest experience. This role manages the flow of the dining room, maintains accurate wait times, and ensures every guest feels welcomed, appreciated, and cared for from arrival to departure.
The Host sets the tone for Luella’s hospitality by modeling warmth, professionalism, and urgency while supporting the Front of House team in delivering a consistent Taste the Love experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
GUEST EXPERIENCE & HOSPITALITY
- Greet every guest promptly, warmly, and with genuine eye contact
- Manage wait lists accurately and communicate realistic wait times
- Lead guests to their seats and introduce their server when appropriate
- Maintain awareness of special occasions and communicate to service team
- Anticipate guest needs in the waiting area and dining room
- Assist guests with questions about the menu, wait times, or accommodations
- Acknowledge and thank departing guests
- Maintain the cleanliness and visual appeal of all guest-facing areas
POSITION EXECUTION
- Monitor table turns and communicate with FOH leadership to manage flow
- Support bussing, resetting tables, and light cleaning when needed
- Answer phones professionally and handle call-in inquiries
- Coordinate with kitchen and service teams during high-volume periods
- Maintain accurate guest counts and seating charts
- Follow all cash handling and POS procedures when applicable
- Assists guests with picking up takeout orders

- Uphold grooming and appearance standards as are outlined in Team Handbook
- Communicate effectively with FOH and BOH team members
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude at all times
- Protect the hospitality culture through integrity and accountability

- Support operational flow during busy periods
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess at least 90% of the following:
- Previous hosting experience preferred but not required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Natural hospitality toward guests, team members, and vendors
- Attention to detail and pride in execution
- Ability to stay calm and efficient in a fast-paced environment
- Basic familiarity with food preparation and restaurant flow
- Ability to quickly learn POS and technology systems
- Integrity, accountability, and a desire to be the best
PHYSICAL & SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to stand, walk, talk, and hear
- The team member is required to be on their feet for a large portion of the day/shift
- The team member is required to stoop, kneel, or crouch; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel tools or controls; must be able to lift and /or move heavy objects including tables and cases of food and beverage; must be able to lift approximately 20 pounds overhead
- Must be able to sustain constant mental and visual attention
- Adequate computer skills and, more importantly, the ability to learn a new computer application quickly and follow the standards associated with it
- Must be able to work in a restaurant environment, including kitchens, dining rooms, and patios.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that can vary from week to week; work required on AM and PM shifts, weekends, and holidays
