REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree with DESE Certification in Elementary Education. Previous related teaching experience is desired.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
- Develop and implement a progressive Art Curriculum for students in grades K-5.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the Board of Education.
- Develops lesson plans and instruction material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps visual data, and prepares progress reports.
- Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
- Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of student’s work
- Manage and maintain art room, art equipment, and supplies
- Provide leadership in determining the spending of funds appropriated to the elementary art program.
- Create an environment that encourages all students to express themselves visually.
- Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations.
- Other professional duties as may be assigned by the Elementary Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment is on an annual basis. The Building Principal makes employment recommendations in March of each year for the next fiscal year. The final decision is made by the Board of Education. Salary is based on the Certificated Salary Schedule adopted annually by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION
An annual evaluation is conducted by the Building Principal using the evaluation method adopted by the Board of Education.
