Summary:
The primary purpose of the Afterschool Services: LUCY littles Summer Camp Intern is to support LUCY Outreach in offering multi-lingual, culturally responsive services to youth ages seven to eleven (7-11). In helping LUCY fulfill its mission, the Director of the Afterschool Services and the Littles Afterschool Coordinator will utilize developmentally appropriate best practice methods to develop, implement and supervise comprehensive and innovative afterschool programming, which ensures the safety and well-being of each youth by responding to their emotional, social, physical and educational needs, and helps them meet their academic and social potential.
The 7-week summer camp will run Monday through Friday, 10 am-4 pm. The camp will offer in-person programs and schedule daily activities, which include arts and crafts, STEM, physical activities, swimming lessons, and trips.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years working with children or teens.
Hours:
Interns will be full-time, non-exempt position, requiring 40 hours, Monday through Friday (~9 am-5 pm) to accomplish the goals and deliverables of the position. The position will, at times, require evenings and weekends. Interns must commit to the seven week summer camp from July 6th through August 21
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily activities including arts & crafts, STEM, sports, and literacy/math support
- Plan and supervise trips, including weekly pool days
- Develop camp schedules, calendars, and structured programming
- Build strong, positive relationships with youth and families
- Support academic progress, social skills, and confidence-building
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment
- Track attendance, session notes, and program data (Salesforce)
- Assist with outreach, recruitment, and community engagement
- Coordinate workshops, guest speakers, and special activities
- Help plan meals/snacks and support daily program operations
What We’re Looking For
- 21 with a valid driver’s license and clean record
- 4 years of driving experience (ability to drive 7–15 passenger vans)
- Minimum 3 years experience working with youth
- Background or interest in Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related fields
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to manage groups and handle behavioral situations confidently
- Comfortable planning and leading structured programming
- Passion for working with Camden youth and families
Preferred Skills
- Conversational Spanish
- Experience with Google Workspace, Canva, or social media
- Familiarity with Salesforce or willingness to learn
- Experience with program development, public speaking, or event coordination
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and youth in crisis
Requirements
- Ability to pass background check, fingerprinting, and required clearances
- Completion of mandatory staff training (June15-18)
- Ability to work a full-time schedule throughout the summer
