General Store Manager Job Description
As the General Store Manager, you will play a vital role in leading the daily operations of our convenience store. You will oversee staffing, inventory, merchandising, pricing, and customer service while ensuring full compliance with liquor, tobacco, vape, and fuel regulations. In this hands‑on leadership role, you will maintain a clean and safe environment, support and develop your team, and drive sales through excellent execution and strong operational standards.
Responsibilities: Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Hiring: Recruit, interview, and select qualified candidates suited for convenience‑store operations. Oversee onboarding and ensure all new employees are trained in store procedures, compliance laws, and customer service standards.
· Scheduling: Create and manage schedules to ensure proper coverage during peak hours, delivery windows, and high‑traffic periods while remaining compliant with labor laws.
· Personnel Management: Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, address performance concerns, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
· Training: Maintain a comprehensive training program covering register operation, age‑restricted product laws, stocking procedures, cleaning standards, and customer service expectations.
· Supervision and Leadership: Lead and support staff in day‑to‑day operations including cashiering, stocking, cleaning, and customer service.
· Performance Coaching and Staff Development: Coach employees to improve speed of service, accuracy, product knowledge, and professionalism.
· Customer Service: Ensure customers receive fast, accurate, and friendly service. Resolve complaints professionally and maintain a welcoming environment.
· Online Reputation Management: Monitor and respond to customer reviews on Google, Yelp, and social media. Identify feedback trends and address concerns promptly.

· Merchandising: Maintain organized, clean, and appealing displays. Ensure shelving, coolers, and endcaps are properly stocked and rotated.
· Sales Strategies: Support sales initiatives by analyzing customer buying patterns and leveraging promotions and product placement.
· Product Research and Selection: Identify and evaluate new convenience‑store products including snacks, beverages, tobacco, vape, and liquor items. Analyze trends and work with vendors to negotiate pricing and promotions.
· Vendor Relations: Communicate with distributors and suppliers, verify deliveries, review invoices, and ensure timely payment processing.
· Vendor Accountability and Delivery Auditing: Inspect vendor deliveries for accuracy, quality, shortages, or overcharges and report discrepancies.
· Regulatory Documentation Management: Maintain required compliance documentation for alcohol, tobacco, vape, lottery, and fuel operations.
· Financial Management: Review sales data, labor costs, and expenses to identify opportunities for improvement and maintain profitability.
· Cash Handling Oversight: Oversee cash procedures including register accuracy, safe counts, deposits, and reconciliation. Investigate discrepancies promptly.
· Pricing Management: Update and maintain accurate pricing according to SOPs and vendor cost changes. Ensure correct POS pricing and shelf labeling.
· Operational Reporting and Communication: Provide ownership with regular updates regarding sales performance, staffing needs, compliance issues, and store operations.
· Compliance: Ensure operations follow all federal, state, and local regulations related to alcohol, tobacco, vape, lottery, safety, and fuel.
· Security and Safety Management: Maintain a safe store environment by ensuring cameras function properly, enforcing safety protocols, and monitoring high‑risk areas.
· Store Maintenance and Cleanliness: Ensure all areas including restrooms, sales floor, coolers, storage, and exterior grounds are clean, safe, and well‑maintained.
· Equipment and Technology Management: Ensure proper functionality of POS systems, coolers, freezers, pumps, scanners, and security systems. Coordinate repairs promptly.
· Gas Management: Monitor fuel levels, coordinate deliveries, verify pump accuracy, update fuel pricing, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
· Waste, Returns, and Expiration Control: Monitor expiration dates, log damages, remove expired product, and process returns while minimizing loss.
