Department Description

The PICU is a 36 bed unit devoted to caring for the immediate needs of critically ill infants, children and adolescents and their families. The PICU serves an extremely diverse patient population; many of which derive from our established solid organ transplant and neurosurgical programs. The PICU also cares for trauma patients and critically ill children with sepsis, respiratory failure and multi-system organ failure. Therapies provided include high frequency oscillator ventilation (HFOV), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The PICU is the primary Code Blue and Rapid Response Team as well as home to the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team at Packard Children's.

JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Nurse is responsible for performing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) and delivering safe therapeutic nursing care in consultation/collaboration with interdisciplinary members of the patient care team. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served on the assigned unit(s). Possesses the ability to assess and interpret appropriate data relative to age and to provide nursing care as needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures: demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span; and possess an understanding of the range of treatments needed by patients.

Qualifications
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

    Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Prefer BSN.

    Experience: Minimum of 1 or more years of acute care or critical care RN experience. Pediatrics, preferred.
    License/Certification:
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days
    • Registered Nurse by California Board of Registered Nursing
    • Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
    KNOWLEDGE

    Pay Range
    Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
    Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
    Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
    Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $107.64 to $121.87
