Summary
The Compliance Generalist is a vital role responsible for supporting and executing the pharmacy's compliance program. This individual will be a key player in ensuring adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations relevant to long-term care pharmacy operations. The Compliance Generalist will be detail-oriented, proactive, and possess a strong understanding of pharmacy regulations, including HIPAA, DEA, and Board of Pharmacy requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct monthly checks of the Office of Inspector General (OIG) exclusion list and other relevant sanction lists to ensure all employees and contractors are in good standing.
- Monitor and track all pharmacy, pharmacist, and pharmacy technician licenses, certifications, and registrations to ensure they are current and valid.
- Maintain an up-to-date calendar of renewal dates for all licenses and certifications and coordinate with staff to ensure timely renewals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for subpoenas and legal requests for patient information.
- Interpret and analyze subpoenas to determine the scope of the request.
- Pull, compile, and organize requested patient and pharmacy data in a timely and confidential manner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
- Coordinate with management as needed for complex requests.
- Prepare and gather all necessary documentation and information for scheduled and unscheduled Board of Pharmacy inspections, DEA audits, and other regulatory reviews.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of audit readiness files and procedures.
- Assist during on-site inspections, providing requested documents and answering inquiries.
- Document and track any deficiencies or findings from inspections and assist in the development of corrective action plans.
- Assist in the review, revision, and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures related to compliance.
- Ensure all staff are trained on relevant compliance policies, including HIPAA and fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Investigate and respond to compliance-related inquiries and issues.
- Maintain organized and secure electronic and physical files for all compliance-related documents, including licenses, audits, and legal requests.
- Stay current on changes to federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Assist in the development and delivery of compliance training materials for new and existing employees.
- This position has access to PHI and must comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Comply with company Corporate Compliance Program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in person and remotely.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software as well as other accounting software programs.
- Ability to operate related office equipment, such as computers, 10-key calculator, and copier.

Required Physical Abilities:
- Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods, often for the majority of the workday.
- Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, such as typing on a keyboard.
- Visual Acuity: Good vision to read and interpret data on computer screens and documents.
- Communication: Ability to speak clearly and listen attentively during phone calls or meetings.
- Occasional Lifting: Capability to lift and carry light objects, typically up to 10 pounds.
- Mobility: Ability to move around the office to access files, office equipment, or attend meetings. Ability to bend and stoop.
- Posture: Maintaining proper posture to avoid strain or injury, often with the use of ergonomic furniture.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in business administration, healthcare, or relevant field from a four-year college or university preferred but not required.
- Two or more years of previous professional experience in a compliance internal auditing role within Pharmacy environment.
- Completion of a structured Pharmacy Technician Training Program and licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy.
- Current Pharmacy Technician License issued by Board of Pharmacy and in good standing.
- This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test.
