Job Description:
LT Leon Associates is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations for a variety of engineering, infrastructure, and construction projects. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage field survey teams to ensure accurate and efficient data collection.
The Survey Crew Chief will work under the guidance of a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) and collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders. Survey projects may include topographic surveys, boundary and right-of-way surveys, hydrographic mapping, ALTA/NSPS surveys, aerial surveys, construction layout, and as-built surveys.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Lead survey crews in performing control, boundary, topographic, ALTA, right-of-way, hydrographic, construction layout and as-built surveys.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee field survey activities to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Perform calculations to determine geographic positions, property lines, and site characteristics.
- Prepare data, charts, plots, map records, and documents relating to surveys.
- Operate and maintain Trimble robotic total stations, GPS, hydrographic sonar equipment, and other survey tools.
- Perform field data collection for aerial imagery, LiDAR and other remote sensing data.
- Conduct hydrographic surveys using single-beam sonar, jon boat, canoe, or kayak.
- Ensure survey data is properly collected, recorded, and formatted for engineering and design teams.
- Communicate effectively with clients, engineers, project managers, and regulatory agencies.
- Operate and maintain survey vehicles.
- Document work performed and prepare any required daily reports.
- Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Enforce safety procedures and quality standards for fieldwork operations.
- Mentor and train junior field crew members to enhance team performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 5 years of field survey experience.
- Experience in leading survey crews preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry survey equipment (up to 50 lbs.) and work in varied outdoor environments.
Skills:
- Proficient in Trimble robotic total stations, GPS, and hydrographic survey equipment (preferred).
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, site plans, and property boundaries.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, legal descriptions and plats.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of quality, safety, and regulatory standards in surveying.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or other survey-related software (preferred).
