What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping Assistant - Class B CDL position at LPC?
Position Summary:
The Shipping/Receiving Assistant is responsible for safely and efficiently shipping, receiving, and transporting local loads between company plants and designated locations. This position requires a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and adherence to all federal, state, and company safety regulations. If you do not already have a Class B License, you will be expected to get one in the first 3 months of starting. The Driver will ensure timely delivery of goods, maintain accurate records, and keep company vehicles in good working condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate company vehicles requiring a Class B CDL to transport materials between local plants and facilities.
- Verify load accuracy and ensure proper securement of materials for transport.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any maintenance or safety issues immediately.
- Follow all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company safety policies at all times.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and plant personnel regarding load status and delivery schedules.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials as needed.
- Keep assigned vehicle clean and in proper working condition.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT standards.
- Strong understanding of local and state traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Preferred:
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience driving short-haul or local routes.
- Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when loading/unloading materials.
- Work in varying weather conditions when outdoors.
Work Schedule:
- Local routes only, typically within 10-mile radius.
- Monday – Friday 9:30am – 5:30pm
