What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Attorney, LBF My Community Cares position at Loyola University - New Orleans?
This is a staff attorney position with the Law Clinic. The primary focus for the staff attorney position is to work with various sections of the Law Clinic to provide direct civil legal representation to indigent clients. Areas of practice include educational advocacy, public benefits, family law, and other areas of collateral representation for youth in the foster care system or at risk of entering the foster care system that promote child and family well-being.
- The staff attorney will assist with representation of clients on the dockets of the Law Clinic’s child and family-serving sections (Children’s Rights, Immigration Law, Family Law, and Disability Justice).
- The staff attorney will maintain records and create training protocols on the Law Clinic’s case management system, Clio.
- The staff attorney will also support training and system reform efforts of the Law Clinic that benefit youth who are in or are at risk of entering the foster care system.
- The staff attorney is responsible for drafting grant proposals for the transportation and legal costs for MCC clients.
- The staff attorney creates and maintains relationships with community partners and coordinates events to train agencies and court officials working with children and families.
- Advanced degree—J.D.
- Member of the Louisiana bar.
- Law practice/litigation experience.
- Outstanding legal research and writing skills.
- Commitment to social justice lawyering.
- Highly organized, excellent communication skills, and case management experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience representing low-income and diverse client populations.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
