Job Description:
Loyola Blakefield’s Classical Language Department is searching for a caring, dedicated professional to be an integral part of a small but enthusiastic department. Loyola Blakefield offers a full complement of college preparatory and honors Latin courses as well as honors ancient Greek. The ideal candidate would be both willing and able to teach Latin at any level (up to and including AP Latin) and possibly ancient Greek. All teachers in the department need to be willing and interested in teaching one or two sections of our Classical Languages course for 6th graders which includes some Greek but focuses on Latin. Interest in facilitating our chapter of the National Junior Classical League will also be looked on favorably as will a willingness to travel with students to Italy or Greece. We are seeking a candidate with openness to, if not experience of, a variety of pedagogical approaches. Given the variety of students’ needs and learning styles, the teacher will need to work collaboratively and creatively to support students. We currently use the Cambridge Latin Course for Latin, and our Greek curriculum is based on New Testament Greek.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach a full course load; 5 classes and emergency proctoring
- Participate in co-curricular, service and retreat opportunities with students
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in the Classics, Latin, or related field. Masters preferred.
- Three years of successful teaching experience at the middle school or high school level.
