Position: Full Time Pastor

We are a missionary Baptist church and are affiliated with Smith River Missionary Baptist Association, Baptist State Convention, and Lott Carey Foreign Mission. Our mission is to be witnesses to the good news of Jesus Christ through the ministries of preaching, teaching, fellowship, service, and worship. Our vision is to continue to be a nurturing community of faith committed to networking with community agencies and displaying a strong prophetic witness by engaging in evangelism, education, edification, economic empowerment, and exaltation.

In the year of 1865, a group of former slaves who had been worshipping in the balcony of a white church decided to organize a church of their own now that the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. An old building formerly used as a hospital for soldiers was offered them for their worship. This building was located on old "Hospital Hill," also called "Dance Hill," in the area of what is now Franklin and Cabell Streets and was named the First Baptist Church, (the first Negro church in Danville.) The church later moved from its original location to a new edifice located on Loyal Street. Here they met and worshipped for about two years. The name of the church was changed to Loyal Street Baptist Church, taking the name of the street on which the church was now located. The present edifice was erected in 1923 at the cost of $100,000. The name was changed from Loyal Street Baptist Church to Loyal Baptist Church. This church, a Gothic brick structure with beautiful stained glass windows, stands as a monument not only to the Negro citizenry, but to the entire community.

POSITION: Loyal Baptist Church is seeking a full-time pastor called by Good to:

• Plan and conduct worship services.
• Preach Bible based, inspirational sermons with application to daily life
• Lead and teach stimulating Bible studies
• Lead in administering the ordinances of Baptism and Communion.
• Provide pastoral care to members who are experiencing bereavement, are sick or shut-in.
• Officiate at funerals, weddings, baby dedications, and other events.
• Conduct pastoral counseling.
• Seek to win the unsaved.
• Assume leadership role in carrying out the mission of the church.
• Provide leadership training for ministry leaders and church officers.
• Work with deacons, church officers, auxiliaries and committees in performing their assigned responsibilities.
• Serve as the moderator for church business meetings.
• Represent the church at the district, regional and state levels.

Qualifications: Candidate must:

• Be a born again Christian.
• Possess a good moral Christian reputation in the home and in the community.
• Demonstrate pastoral experience of 3 to 5 years with college and seminary training (preferred).
• Be licensed and ordained Baptist minister.
• Possess qualifications as listed in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-8.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

• Knowledge in the Word of God.
• The ability to prepare and deliver biblical based sermons.
• The ability to lead stimulating Bible studies.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• The ability to communicate well with the church congregation and the community at large (including all groups).
• Possess administrative and leadership skills.
• Be proficient in the use of technology.
• Demonstrate interest in the spiritual and intellectual growth of the church.

Pay: $24,935.00 - $71,363.00 per year
