Lowe's 2024 Summer Internship Program offers a challenging, project-based opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to enhance their understanding of the retail business world through valuable, hands-on experience with a FORTUNE® 50 company. The summer internship program begins with orientation on May 20th and concludes on August 2nd. All internships are paid opportunities. And qualified interns will be eligible for Lowe's housing benefit.
This role has potential for conversion into a full-time, entry-level position as part of Lowe's Launchpad program for those that successfully complete their internship and required education. Lowe's Launchpad is a rotational opportunity designed to help emerging technologists strengthen their tech skills, engage with tech leaders, and learn more about Lowe’s culture while advancing their career. Successful completion of this program could result in final placement in just 18-months.
Lowe’s Discovery Science Internship
We are looking for talented students to join our discovery science team as interns. The Discovery sciences team works on applying a wide range of Machine learning concepts such as information retrieval, recommender systems, personalization, NLP, knowledge graphs, computer vision to improve the overall online experience for our customers. Your work will help millions of home improvement customers discover the best products that satisfy their needs from our catalog of millions of items. Interns will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of impactful areas such as search, recommendations, personalization, knowledge graphs, computer vision, conversational systems etc.
Interns will have the opportunity to work in one or more of the following applied research areas:
Query understanding
NLP
Search Relevance and Ranking
Recommender Systems
Reinforcement Learning
Counterfactual learning and evaluation
Intent understanding and user modeling
Knowledge Graphs
Computer vision
Conversational systems
You will collaborate with diverse cross functional stakeholders such as ML Engineers, Data Engineers and Product Managers in crafting and implementing solutions for online search.
Education and/or Experience
Pursuing a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, or related quantitative analytic field with a graduation date of Fall 2024 or Spring 2025
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA is required
Strong expertise in one or more of the areas: Search relevance, query understanding, ranking and recommendations, NLP, Computer vision
Have strong ML engineering skills with expertise in Python and machine learning tools (scikit,Tensorflow, PyTorch)
Are a strong communicator who can collaborate with diverse stakeholders across all levels
