What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Assistant Tech Per Diem position at LOWER UMPQUA HOSPITAL DISTRICT?
POSITION TITLE: Laboratory Assistant
Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Classification: UFCW, Non-Exempt
Supervisory: none

JOB SUMMARY:
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting with the Laboratory Technologists with phlebotomy and paperwork.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Performs blood draws using advanced techniques and equipment to obtain laboratory specimens from patients of all ages.
2. Assists in logging in patients with respective tests.
3. Assists with daily charges and reviews monthly charge reports to verify accuracy.
4. Assists with preparing monthly and periodic Quality Assurance reports.
5. Assists with processing specimens for reference laboratories.
6. Assists with filing and getting final results to Medical Records for patient charts.
7. Uses the telephone efficiently, directs calls to others, and gives reports to physicians.
8. Assists in ordering of supplies and restocking of supplies in the department.
9. Participates in team building by maintaining constructive relationships and encouraging others to learn new skills.
10. Follows department procedures as written, and provides input for new procedures.
11. Responsible for being familiar with and working to be in compliance with all regulatory standards and requirements that apply to his/her work area. As part of the institution’s ongoing quality improvement effort, the employee should pursue opportunities to resolve identified problems and improve patient care.
12. Responsible for being familiar with safety policies and procedures in related to their work areas and will comply with these policies.
13. Create and organize an orderly environment in the lab.
14. Process specimens on analyzers.
15. Entering patient reports into computer.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and License:
High School diploma or GED required.
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Experience
Experience in phlebotomy, preferred
Additional Qualifications:
1. Ability to work independently.
2. Computer literacy
3. Requires ability to apply principles of logical thinking, and ability to concentrate on procedures with constant distractions.
4. Requires regular exercise of independent judgment and good decision-making skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Frequent use of computer and phone, and other standard office machines. Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull using proper body mechanics and move/lift varying amounts of weight to a maximum of 50 lbs.
