Job Description
School Counselor
• Manages student 504 plans and meetings in accordance in with federal law and OPS 504 Handbook
• Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups, and classrooms
• Completes assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families
• Creates student schedules in conjunction with school leadership
• Monitors individual student progress towards promotion & graduation
• Ensures accuracy of transfer records and transcripts
• Leads maintenance of student cumulative folders and distribution of report cards
• Develop and maintain comprehensive school counseling program and plan
• Support the transitions of new students to the school
• Support the transitions from Lower School to Upper School
• Connect community resources and programs to students/parents to meet individualized student needs
• Facilitate monthly classroom visits to all K – 6 classrooms on selected counseling topics
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred
- Valid North Carolina license as a School Counselor and/or School Social Worker
- Experience working in a school setting, preferably with elementary students
- Strong skills in student support, collaboration with families, and consultation with teachers and staff
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate school environment
