What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative -Mechanic Full time - School Bus Mechanic (LPVEC) position at Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative?
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Plan, schedule, repair and preventative maintenance of the LPVEC transportation fleet as needed; ensure the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition; and provide written documentation of repairs to meet LPVEC, state and federal requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum 3 years documented experience repairing and servicing school buses or medium duty trucks.
2. Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring a proficient understanding of school bus repair.
3. Ability to overhaul engine on both gasoline and diesel-powered trucks and school buses
4. Expert utilizing a wide range of diagnostic tools (e.g., scan tools, diagnostic software, multimeters, test probes) effectively to identify root cause failures in diesel, gasoline and electric vehicles.
5. Valid CDL license with School Bus & Passenger endorsement
6. Knowledge of Registry of Motor Vehicles school bus safety inspection procedures.
7. Must have basic hand tools (and the ability to use them properly) as a mechanic, i.e. ratchets, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, oil filter wrenches, tire pressure gauge, torque wrenches, etc.
8. Punctual attendance with no physical limitations preventing the ability to perform essential job functions.
9. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
11. Basic computer skills for work orders, inspections and maintenance logs.
12. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1.Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
2.Posses a Valid Massachusetts Class A or B license, with a School Bus & Passenger Endorsement.
3.Must be twenty-one (21) years old and process a clean driving record for three (3) or more years.
4.Such alternatives the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.Operate vehicles to diagnose problems and confirm that all repairs have been successfully completed.
2.Use diagnostic tools to identify root cause failures in diesel, gasoline and electric vehicles.
3.Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair 12V electrical systems, 12V and 5V sensing systems, and ground-sending systems, and identify/replace faulty control modules.
4.Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues related to chassis, brakes, and driveline components beyond the transmission.
5.Identify and repair complex engine and transmission problems in diesel, gasoline, and electric vehicles.
6.Perform full engine overhauls, including dismantling and reassembling diesel and gasoline engines.
7.Diagnose and repair air conditioning systems, including the use of A/C recharging equipment.
8.Install, calibrate, and adjust heating and defrosting systems.
9.Remove and replace any faulty vehicle components as needed.
10.Perform welding, grinding, cutting, and fabrication work for major body or structural repairs on buses.
11.Guide and assist lower-level technicians (Tech B and Tech C) in resolving complex or uncommon technical issues.
12.Perform all duties expected of both Tech B and Tech C classification
13.Maintain inventory of parts & supplies
14.Maintain repair and preventive maintenance records.
15.Responds to emergency situations during and outside regular work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns, including emergency breakdowns and service, snow removal, general property maintenance, etc.
16.Substitute as a bus driver when needed for the purpose of ensuring a qualified person is able to run the bus on the route.
17.Perform snow removal, which may occur outside the regularly scheduled work hours.
18.Schedule and coordinate warranty service on appropriate vehicles
19.Inspect and repair vehicles prior to Registry of Motor Vehicle inspections
20.Perform other duties as required by the Director
