What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative (LPVEC) School Nurse position at Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative?
The primary responsibility of the CTEC School Nurse is to manage school health care services as outlined by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health School Health Unit (MA DPH SHU) at the Career and Technical Education Center. 1.Regular and punctual attendance.2.To be present at assigned workstation (bus duty, hall duty, etc.) at designated time.3.To distribute, collect and submit all required paperwork for students and teachers in a timely manner.4.To serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitude, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.5.To participate in staff meetings and professional development activities and to be responsible for attending other meetings which might be called after school hours by the Principal/Director and/or the Executive Director.6.To maintain appropriate cumulative records (grades, competency tracking, portfolio, etc.) on all program students.7.To maintain and update as needed an inventory of related program tools, equipment, supplies and materials.8.To order classroom and shop supplies for educational purposes by following policies and procedures.9.To maintain budgets for local funds as well as student activity and revolving accounts by following policies and procedures.10.To remain current on specific job requirements and evolving technologies in the industry through appropriate professional development activities.11.To consistently build favorable relationships through positive interactions with students, peers, and administration and contribute to a healthy, accepting, and kind culture free from negativity and judgement.12.To maintain confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties about students, their families and other employees.13.To adhere to the LPVEC General and Educational Handbook Policies and Procedures and Brush Hill Faculty Guidelines of the Career and Technical Education Center.14.To perform all other duties as assigned by the Principal/Director and/or Executive Director.HEALTH MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISIONPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES1.Establishes, manages, and properly documents all aspects of a comprehensive school health program consistent with MA DPH SHU guidelines, including: a.Identifies family/guardian emergency contacts at the start of each academic year.b.Reviews the medical information provided by parent/guardian at start of each academic year.c.Identifies the primary care provider (PCP) for each student. Make PCP referrals when necessary. d.Records all immunizations.
Follows MA DPH guidelines for quarantine of under-immunized students in case of a vaccine preventable disease outbreak.e.Reviews physical exam records. Date of exam must be current for students age and grade level.f.Perform Vision, Hearing, and Postural Screening according to MA DPH SHU guidelines.g.Properly disposes/destroys Student Health Records within seven years of a students graduation.2.Manages all school health related inter-office communication, including communication with all LPVEC sending district schools.3.Follows law pertaining to Massachusetts School Health Record, protecting confidential health information according to HIPPA and FERPA requirements.4.Maintains and updates current medical information pertaining to disease outbreak management via internet access to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the MA DPH division of Epidemiology.5.Follows the current Massachusetts State law as a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect.6.Manages the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT). Responds to any emergency within the school. Administers first aid and CPR in professional manner.
