What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inclusion Teacher - Career & Technical Education/Special Education Liaison - LPVEC position at Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative?
The primary role is to assist students with IEPs and 504 Plans with career and technical education (CTE) classroom content. While the Career and Technical Teacher is the subject-area expert, the Inclusion Teacher is the expert in disabilities and accommodations. The Inclusion Specialist may also assist students who do not have an IEP or 504 Plan as part of the support provided to the class. The Inclusion Teacher works with the Career and Technical Education Teacher to tailor assignments to individual students' needs and to provide scaffolding and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Regular and punctual attendance.
2. To be present at the assigned workstation (bus duty, hall duty, etc.) at the designated time.
3. To serve as a role model for students and staff by demonstrating a positive attitude, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.
4. To participate in staff meetings and professional development activities and to be responsible for attending other meetings that may be called after school hours by the Principal/Director and/or the Executive Director.
5. To assist and participate in recruitment, exploratory, and public relations activities that promote career-technical education.
6. To plan and implement Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) that meet students' needs per IDEA.
7. To provide services to assigned students so they may access the Chapter 74 curriculum in accordance with Massachusetts state frameworks.
8. To accept and assume responsibility for the development and implementation of annual goals and specific objectives to meet each individual student's needs.
9. To establish rapport and collaborate with other teachers, support staff, administration, parents, guardians, caregivers, and others.
10. To maintain an accurate and complete student record for each student, including, but not limited to, educational progress, educational evaluation, attendance, and communications with other professionals, parents, guardians, or caregivers.
11. To maintain and oversee the execution of the special education passport system and/or IEP management system, including verifying that all students’ records have been forwarded by the home school.
12. To complete and maintain student passports or other IEP management systems.
13. To analyze and track inclusion compliance numbers in the general education setting.
14. To submit reports and records, as required by the Collaborative, by sending school districts and/or state and/or federal laws and regulations, in a timely manner, to the program supervisor, administrator, and special education office.
15. To gain experience with career and technical education teachers to support the success of students with disabilities during the Exploratory and One Day One Shop process.
16. To establish a structured classroom to ensure safety and promote the educational progress of each student.
17. To ensure services are provided to all students with disabilities and to serve as a liaison to teachers, parents, guardians, caregivers, and home schools.
18. To support students with disabilities and the career and technical education teacher in facilitating the student's successful transition into the Career and Technical program.
19. To maintain a communication system with parents, guardians, caregivers, teachers, students, and districts.
20. To assist the classroom teacher in creating career and technical education task analysis, scaffolding workplace tasks, and chunking task-related assignments.
21. To provide feedback and coaching to support career and technical education teachers in implementing IEPs, structuring classrooms, and developing behavior management plans.
22. Develop intervention plans with career and technical education teachers, counselors, parents, guardians, caregivers, and home schools for struggling career and technical education students. Implement the plan with the team and meet with the team to assess progress.
23. To assist students in developing career readiness skills, including behavioral, social/emotional, document creation and gathering, and interviewing.
24. To participate with the student support team in developing and supporting transition planning.
25. May work outdoors or off-site to support students participating in hands-on career and technical education tasks on a jobsite or project. This may also include assisting students working with young children, restaurant customers, and in nursing.
26. Supporting students’ safety and progress who are using workplace equipment such as ovens, saws, automotive lifts, silk-screening equipment, landscaping equipment, computers, and cash registers.
27. To attend IEP meetings in the sending districts as needed, work with the career and technical teacher to develop vocational goals and assist in implementing them.
28. To promptly report any changes to the schedule, staff absences, and disciplinary incidents to the program supervisor.
29. To provide direct support to students in the classroom by delivering instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of co-teaching models and strategies.
30. To develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students and maintain compliance with all federal regulations and state policies regarding the education of students with disabilities.
31. To ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment, instruction may be provided in the regular classroom, resource, and/or small classroom settings.
32. To design engaging classroom activities and differentiated lessons so that all students may access the curriculum and benefit from the educational experience.
33. To formally and informally assess student learning (rather than relying solely on standardized curriculum) to create a comprehensive learning program.
34. To set high expectations that are appropriate for the students. Assessments may be differentiated based on each student's individual plan. This may require developing alternative assessments.
35. To work collaboratively with the Co-Teacher, teaching and grade-level teams, and other staff, especially the instructional support team, to plan, share student work, and ensure that instruction is aligned with the identified curriculum and standards.
36. To build partnerships with families, encouraging their active participation in students’ learning.
37. To stay current on specific job-entry skill requirements and evolving technologies in the industry through appropriate professional development activities.
38. To consistently build positive relationships through positive interactions with students, peers, and administration and to contribute to a healthy, accepting, and kind culture free from negativity and judgment.
39. To maintain the confidentiality of student records and information obtained as part of professional duties regarding students, their families, and other employees.
40. To adhere to the LPVEC Employee Handbook, policies and procedures, and the Brush Hill Faculty Guidelines.
41. To perform all other duties as determined by the Principal/Director and/or Executive Director and designated as essential duties.
