The YMCA is currently seeking a work study eligible student to serve as a Child Care Teacher at their Longview location. This is an off-campus work study position; all hours will be worked at the Longview YMCA.
This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Child Care Teacher at the YMCA of Southwest Washington maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises the children, classroom, and all program activities.
- Follows all procedures and standards as established by the law or the Y; makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming; creates lesson plans that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes.
- Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth.
- Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress; conducts parent / caregiver conferences; connects families to the Y.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift children up to 40lbs.

Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :
CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and / or the Y.
Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate / developmentally appropriate
program activities.
Previous experience with diverse populations.
Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Anticipated Start Date
LCC offers two start dates for new employees - the 1st and 16th or the closest working day.
Paid Sick Leave
Student employees (work study and student help) accrue sick leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. A sick leave balance not to exceed 40 hours will be carried over into January each year.
On-site Childcare Center
Theis a state licensed program that offers high quality childcare for children ages 1 month through kindergarten entry to students, staff and faculty. The center is open Monday through Friday 7 : 30 a.m. to 5 : 30 p.m. The program is a participant of the Washington State Early Achievers quality rating and improvement system and rated a level 4-Quality Level of Excellence. Our teachers are trained in the Early Childhood Education field.
