After Care Staff (Seasonal)
Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 300 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks After Care staff with skills in a variety of areas, including supervision and activity planning with preschool through elementary school-age students. This position reports to the Auxiliary Programs Administrative Team. The dates for hire are August 31, 2026, to June 10, 2027, and the hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 2:45–6 pm, and Wednesdays from 1:45–6 pm. Lowell is located in Upper NW DC near Rock Creek Park and Downtown Silver Spring; public transportation is accessible.
Qualifications:
- Loves kids
- Demonstrated experience working with children
- Ability to teach and lead various STEAM and recreational activities
- Excellent character, integrity, and adaptability
- Ability to communicate and work with a variety of ages and skill levels
- The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
- Completed one year of college, at least 18 years of age, or successful employment
- Most Important Qualities:
- Tons of energy (and we mean tons!!)
- A willingness to make a fool of yourself for the sake of making a kid smile
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise activities with an assigned age group
- Supervise snacks and be aware of food allergies
- Opportunities to supervise off-campus activities during camps and during school breaks
- Supervise and facilitate free-choice activities and recess
- Support transitions to enrichment classes
- Communicate needs and behaviors with the office staff
- Develop weekly lesson plans for free-choice activities, including submission of material requests, etc.
- Ensure that students are learning in creative, hands-on, interactive, and age-appropriate ways
- Incorporate opportunities for students to collaborate, problem-solve, and create
- Support students, grades two and above, with homework
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
- Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
- Long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Expected Salary Range:
- $18.50–21.50 per hour
