IN HOUSE SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

REPORTS TO: Principals
JOB GOALS: Carry out the absent teacher's prepared lesson plans and perform all essential functions of a teacher in the classroom.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow the teacher's written lesson plans
- Create a positive learning environment
- Ensure that the goals of the plans are met
- Consult with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns
- Comply with all building procedures and schedules
- Prepare a written summary of work completed and any special notes
- Implement effective management procedures, maintain high expectations and uphold the student conduct code
- Create a referral for any infractions
- Work cooperatively with other teachers
- Uphold computer technology acceptable use policies.
- Build a working knowledge of the curriculum.
- Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information
- Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety
- Provide appropriate and consistent supervision
- Report evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law
- Supervise non-classroom duties when assigned
- Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct
- Develop appropriate student relationships and serve as a positive role model for others
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, required
- MA Department of Education Certification preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Second language or language acquisition background preferred
- Experience working with students from diverse SES backgrounds and cultures, preferred
